"Kirkwood at Night"

2008

man, this one was pretty crazy. i was drawn to the different light schemes: warm to cool. it was pretty difficult, and i don't think i quite nailed it, but i think i got close. this image is carrying some glare in the darks from when i shot it - i will have to wait for it to dry and shoot it again so you get a better idea of the color of the darks.

hey brian-
wow, that looks complex. trying to go from such a warm low lighting to a cool darkness sounds tough. i like how the foreground reads and i like the background, but the transition doesn't read as well. it almost looks like a pier over dark water. maybe a longer smoother transition with very soft edges would do it. yeah- it's hard to see the depth of color in the shadows, but from seeing your work in person- i know it probably carries a lot of rich greens and blues. i'd love to see a pop of a higher value blue in the background somewhere. maybe around the edge of the light that is back there. youknow- on the edge of the white spot where it transitions to darkness. i think it would heighten the contrast between your two intertwined stories. can't wait to see the next one. you sure stay busy!
