Brian Rego
"The Swimming Hole"
oil/panel, 8"x8"
2008

painted on 6/4/08 around 4-5pm.

this painting was a blast to paint chris! i was really thinking about shape here -- the relation of one shape of color to the next -- a very hawthorn-ian approach, but i feel this is the way to paint. it is all about color/value and shape. what do you think?

very nice brian! yeah- color, value, shape. the only way to paint, for sure. i love how simple this painting is. it really is about the large masses of color and value. the composition of the shapes are great and i like the variety you added to the top of the tree to the right. created an opening or exit for the viewer. love the reflection! very well done with minimal info. love how it completes the upper part of the painting without it being there. that doesn't make sense... what i mean is that you can't see the sky in the top of the painting because it is cropped, but seeing the reflection of what's above reveals more to the scene than what you see in the confine of the frame. nice work. can't wait to see more! oh yeah- great edges on the tree to sky reflection!
